Cleaning Up ($$$) Around Lake Union

I found some great money-saving AND energy-saving ideas today that I thought might help someone out.  Some of them are things I wouldn’t have even dreamed of.  Take this one for instance,  Seattle City Light is offering a $1,500 rebate on a ductless heat pump.  You can combine that with a 30% tax credit (up to $1,500 and have a pretty COOL deal 🙂

Costs, Savings & Payback Per Unit

Cost of Unit and Installation $5,000.00
Rebate amount from SCL $1,200.00
Federal Tax Credit (if applicable) 30% of cost,
up to $1500
Net Cost to Customer $2,300.00
Average kWh savings per year 3900
Dollar savings per year at SCL rate of $0.08 $312.00
Payback period in years 7

Besides the rebate, tax savings and energy savings there are quite a few other benefits of the ductless heat pump:

Benefits of a Ductless Heat Pump

  • Saves energy and reduces monthly expenses.
  • Easy to install.
  • Extremely comfortable and ultra-quiet.
  • Additional federal tax benefit.
  • Built in air conditioner.
  • Remote included.
  • No ductwork needed

It seems pretty easy to qualify for the program:

Am I Eligible?

  • You must use electric resistance heating as the primary heat source for your home. These systems include: baseboard heaters, cadet wall heaters, electric hydronic baseboard heaters, and electric furnaces.
  • You cannot have gas service hooked up to your home.
  • Your home must be built before 2007.
  • You must agree to have your billing history made available and your energy use monitored for one year after installation.

I unfortunately live in a place that has gas hooked up to it (only for the fireplace)so it seems I wouldn’t qualify.  But that doesn’t mean I’m not going to let my clients and friends know about it that I think might qualify.  It will be good for them and for the environment!  It’s a great program and one of those hidden secrets so pass it on!
