Komo News repored that  Amazon.com has revealed plans to build three large greenhouses like biodomes in the midst of its proposed Denny Triangle office development.

The new design will go before Seattle’s Design Review Board Tuesday evening for comment and reaction.

As part of the new drawings Amazon.com describes the proposal as an alternative place for its employees to work and socialize in a more natural and park-like setting.

“The generative idea is that a plant-rich environment has many positive qualities that are not often found in a typical office setting,” reads the pitch to the city’s Design Review Board.

Originally Amazon released a proposal to build a 6-story office building on the space. The new plan calls for the three spheres to be 5 stories tall and encompass roughly 65,000 square feet of space.

“The exterior enclosure will be highly transparent and be composed primarily of multiple layers of glass supported by a metal framework,” reads the design proposal.  “In addition to a variety of workplace environments, the facility will incorporate dining, meeting and lounge spaces, as well as a variety of botanical zones modeled on montane ecologies found around the globe.”

The land the company hopes to develop in the Denny Triangle is mostly being used for parking right now. Under Amazon’s plan, parking would be moved underground and some of the current parking areas would be transformed into green space for the public.

Hoping to expand beyond its South Lake Union headquarters, the company announced plans last year to build a trio of towers over the next several years at the location.   The new biodomes would be in the midst of those office towers.
