Q13 has reported that The Family 4th at Lake Union celebration will go on after a long uphill fundraising battle.
One Reel, the organization that puts on the Independence Day celebration, was able to raise the $500,000 needed to ensure the show will take place as scheduled.
The final fundraising push of $25,000 was provided by Coca-Cola Refreshments Northwest Region, based in Bellevue.
The Lake Union fireworks show has been nationally recognized as one of the best in the country. The future of the show came into jeopardy when the One Reel faced a budget shortfall.
Dozens of local companies including Microsoft, Starbucks and Nordstrom offered up donations to save the event.
“Fireworks over Lake Union is a tradition in our community,” said Phil Bussey, president & CEO of the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce. “The Greater Seattle Chamber and our local businesses are honored to be part of it—this year and for years to come.”
Family 4th at Lake Union starts at noon at Gas Works Park on July 4.
